'Belleek in Context' evaluates the establishment of Belleek Pottery and how it is related to the ceramics industry in Ireland and Great Britain. It gives an invaluable insight into what propelled the establishment of Belleek which has been missing from other writing on the pottery. The book is well illustrated with over 115 illustrations and is based on four talks which cover:
1) The social, political and economic environment which surrounded the early ceramics industry in Ireland from 1800 beginning with Donovan until the establishment of Belleek and its relation to Worcester Pottery managed by Kerr and Binns.
2) The setting up of the Pottery, and what it first produced in bone-china and Parian.
3) A consideration of earthenware and other materials made by Belleek.
4) An evaluation of painting on porcelain in late nineteenth century Ireland and Belleek's production compared to Coalisland's and Royal Worcester's production. It also considers Herbert Cooper and the Queen's Institute's production and its relationship to Belleek.
